I haven't gotten any germination from the habanero seeds I dried out and planted yet. I might try to dry out a whole habanero core for a week or 2 before I use any of the seeds. I'll still give them another week or so before I start to really lose hope on them sprouting.

my tomato plants are growing so far so good.

Is it possible that the peppers you have are GM? If so the seeds are sterile.

from what I have read online people generally have pretty good results with drying out pepper seeds from peppers they buy from the store.

low and behold... I just noticed about an hour or so ago that the seeds from the first habanero I planted have sprouted! I didn't even notice anything this morning when I watered them. now that's pretty cool in my opinion. it's the first time I have tried drying out seeds from store bought peppers. it just took longer than I expected for germination.

I can't wait till all the things we are planning on growing are up. This place has not had a garden for years so we are starting from scratch. Most of our plants we will buy at the farmers market. Know most of them personaly and know their plants are good. Will be starting a few things on my own this year and hope to be set up to start all of them next year.

I worked out my Garden Friday. I've got potatoes about 5" tall that I drug dirt around to make hills. Onions about 8" tall. Corn around 4" tall. Purple hull Peas up. My Garden is 50' wide and 100' long. That gives me 90'+ rows. I have 2 rows of potatoes, 2 of onions, 2 corn, and one of peas. I will be planting Tomatoes and Okra later, plus some other stuff. Have Castor beans growing around the perimeter of it.

No garden this year unfortunately. We have to sterilize the soil to kill a blight. Normally we mix about 4" of compost into each bed and plant when the soil feels the right temp. This year, we will probably put some tomatoes into pots so we have some fresh but not like a normal year. Next year, we are already planning! Tomatoes, 5 beds, garlic, 1 bed, and the remaining 4 beds will get peppers, eggplants, okra (I light the flowers but Herself makes the pods edible for me), and maybe a cutting flower bed.

My big mistake was I got lazy and did not rotate the beds. I just wanted tomatoes and that was all I planted. So, verticulum wilt got established and limited the amout of fruit we got. so this year we sterilize and next year we plant.

Spindrift will become famous soon enough
I usually start my garden WAY b4 anyone else here because I want it all planted so the wife can tend it when I get called off to work, usually around June. Looks like I'll be shipping out next week if all goes right. I did mosey around, and dug up some good carrots that were under 5 feet of snow all winter. Still yummy! Two years ago when the state AND federal tax went up on ALL tobacco (usually just cigarettes) I grew my own. Still smoking it from 2 years ago! I rolled a few dozen stogies. Some burned up, some gave me a double hernia puffing on them, and some were just right. They looked ugly, but made up for it by tasting like ****. So I mix it with store bought roasted Cavendish and smoke it in my pipe. It's good and saves a ton of money.
